I wanted the day before Kade was born to be a special day for Marleigh. Afterall, her world was about to be rocked! We headed to Hutchinson at lunch. Marleigh caught a nap at my sister's house, then we went as a family to Salt City Splash. We had so much fun together. Marleigh absolutely loves water. She played and splashed. There was a little waterslide that she must have gone down at least 20 times. She was grinning from ear to ear the entire time. After we got done swimming, we went back to my sister's house and ordered a pizza (Marleigh's favorite). She also got to play with Luke or "Lukie-man" as Marleigh calls him. It was just what I had imagined. A perfect day!
I'm not going to lie, I probably only slept an hour or so Thursday night. We got up at 5:00 to get to the hospital by 5:30 for check-in. I was so anxious, excited, nervous, yet calm all at the same time.
We got all checked in, and they hooked me up to a fetal monitor. I guess it is standard even when they are doing a planned C-section. My doctor came in to say good morning. He looked at the monitors and laughed a bit and asked if I was feeling the contractions. At that point, I wasn't. It was about 6:00am. By around 6:45, I was beginning to feel them. It was like it was Kade's way of telling me, he was ready to make his entrance into the world. I had been a little concerned that we were having our C-section 10 days before his due date. With our history, I would have loved to let him cook until he was ready. Turns out, he was ready!
A little before 7:00, they came in and took us to the OR. They asked that Marc wait outside while they did my spinal. I'm sure he thought they forgot about him waiting outside. They had a hard time getting it in. I think it took her around 15 minutes, but she finally got it.
The surgery itself is kind of a blur. I'm not sure if it was the spinal or if it was just adrenaline. I remember them letting Marc in the room. He came over and held my hand. It seems like it took forever, but I finally heard some gasps from a tiny little person (okay... so he wasn't all that tiny ;) ). I held my breath. I remember asking a couple of times, "Is he okay? Is he okay?" Then he started to cry a bit, and doctor told me he was perfect. I looked at Marc and tears streamed down my face. Then I remember a nurse saying, "Oh my. He must be at least an eight and a half pounder!" I got a quick glimpse of him, then Marc gave me a kiss and headed with Kade to get him checked out.
While they were finishing me up, a wave of peace and calm engulfed me. This was how it should be. Marc and I there together. A healthy, full term baby. I drifted in and out of sleep. It seemed like it took forever for them to get me back to my room.
Marleigh was Kade's first visitor. She wasn't quite sure of it all. She didn't like me being in bed. I think the hospital atmosphere in general bothered her. We were so blessed that all 4 of our parents were there, as well as many of our immediate family to help welcome Kade into the world.
Those 2 days could not have been any more perfect. We give all the credit and glory to our heavenly father. It was by His grace that it all went so well. God is so incredibly good.
